Why is "The Weight" so heavy?

"The Weight" cast-iron cross pendant is designed to be a daily reminder that is more felt than seen. Its uncommon heft is intentional—a constant physical presence against your chest that calls you to discipline, purpose, and steadiness throughout the day. In a world built on distraction, comfort, and appearances, The Weight stands for substance. It is not meant to be flashy or delicate, but grounding and real. You don’t just wear it—you carry it.

Why is there a hole on the bottom also?

The Weight is heavy, there's no doubt about that. The bottom hole is part of a design for a "sport cord" or retention system of sorts so another cord/rope can be fed through it and attached to the necklace turnbuckle via under the armpit route. This allows The Weight to be worn while being more active and keeps the pendant from swinging or moving too dramatically. This system is still being designed but will be introduced before long.

Why cast-iron? Why the wax cotton cord?

No darkness isn’t a brand centered around vanity or looking good. It’s a brand rooted in discipline and honor. Honor to self, and honor to God.

The cast-iron was chose because it’s the same metal used when they crucified Him to the cross. It’s heavy, it’s cold, it’s real. It’s meant to be felt more than anything and to be a reminder of sacrifices made for us so we could live such great lives.

The wax cotton cord was chose to reflect a more humble and modest material. One more traditional, one more natural. The more you wear it the more it will frey and breakdown. This is a reminder to us that no matter how strong our faith is, even when we practice it daily, it has to be renewed time and time again.

Q) Will the cast-iron rust?

A) Out of the box, the cast-iron should not rust. It has an environmentally friendly low-VOC coating applied during the production process. However, if there is significant wear or rubbing or scratching on the pendant itself over time, it could rust. Contact us if you’re having any issues with this.

Q) Is the eco-coating safe against my skin?

A) Yes. The environmentally friendly coating is generally recognized as safe for most all people. But should you experience any type of reaction or allergy please discontinue use and contact us.

Q) How do I shorten the length of the necklace?

A) To shorten the length of the necklace, unscrew the turnbuckle and push one of the ends out of the turnbuckle. Cut the desired length off of the waxed cotton necklace, cutting off the gold crimp as well. Using one of the replacement gold crimps and some pliers, affix the gold crimp where you want the cord to stop in the turnbuckle, leaving only 1/4" or so of cord past the gold crimp. Pull necklace so the gold crimp stops in the turnbuckle. Screw together turnbuckle.

Q) Do you offer any other options than the brown waxed cotton cord necklace?

A) Yes, we have designs for a stainless steel necklace that is coming soon. Also, if you want to replace the stock cord with something else, 325/425 paracord makes a great replacement as there are many colors and styles and is essentially the same thickness as our stock waxxed cotton cord, which is 3mm.
